If I had a diamond mine in my back yard, I’m not too sure I would share it, but that’s exactly what Crater of Diamonds State Park does! Located in Arkansas, this 37-acre plowed field invites you to scrummage through the ancient volcanic rocks on a Digging for Diamonds adventure!
A short drive from Little Rock, Crater of Diamonds State Park is known as the only diamond field in the world that is open to the public! Start Digging for Diamonds and you might unearth a rainbow of sparkling colors. The most common colored diamonds that have been found are white, brown, and yellow. Don’t just stop at these sparkling beauty’s, while you’re digging for diamonds you are likely to come across some of the 40 other types of rocks and minerals! While digging up that college tuition, many gold diggers have found rocks such as lamproite, amethyst, banded agate, jasper, peridot, garnet, quartz, calcite, barite and hematite!

This fun filled adventure is also filled with a piece of history. This diamond mining site has historical value as a real rock mining site. While you scrummage the land for sparkling gems, your eyes may stumble across many remnants of old mining structures. Keep a look out for the Mine Shaft Building, the Guard House, mining plant foundations, and many old mining equipment and smaller artifacts that are scattered across this land!

On September 20th, 2008 Richard Burke found a 4.68-carat white diamond! Since 1906, people have been digging for diamonds at this 37 acre lot in Arkansas. The diamond statistics since opening day is an average of over 75,000 diamonds dug up from this site! Crater of Diamonds State Park goes by the saying “What park visitors find in the diamond search area is theirs to keep.”

With a park rule like “Finders Keepers” I might just have to stop writing for awhile and go on a digging for diamonds adventure of my own!
