“No where to go, and all day to get there.”

What a relaxing thought. No rushing around. No, get here, by then, see this, go there! Of course, that’s the parent’s perspective not the child’s. Just drop me in the water and set me free is what I always thought as a child. Of course, make sure mom and dad are always close behind to protect me from the big scary fish.

Snorkeling is a very relaxing adventure. You float on the top of the warm island blue water, your eyes taking in the multitude of beautiful colors that encompass the ocean floor.

As a child I was lucky enough to be a part of such experiences. Between the ages of 7-10 I had visited St. Thomas and St. Johns with my family, and been on multiple snorkeling excursions.

While watching Jaw’s at home wasn’t the best idea before heading to the Islands, I took comfort in being able to look around through the clear water and not see a great white shark was sneaking up behind me. Naturally my brother found it entertaining to grab my ankle’s every once in awhile, but I was quick to get him back.

Snorkeling as a child was just as fun as snorkeling as an adult. I can say that since I was young enough to remember how snorkeling was at ages eight and ten, and now, many years later, can still say it’s just as fun. Being dropped in the water alone at first was slightly terrifying, but once my family was in the water with me, I was happy to swim along and admire the beautiful colors of the aquatic life.

Children have the same appreciation for beauty as adults do, and shouldn’t be left out of such excursions. While their appreciation may not last a five hour long  hike a snorkeling tour is a fun adventure for everyone in your family.  Plus, it’s refreshing! And really, with their head under water checking out all the neat fish, they’re mouth is submerged and won’t whining about anything else =)
